are us banks shorting ozzie goldies - (boa)

Someone recently posted on Hotcopper that our goldies where being shorted. I have no idea why that should be happening across the board.

Adamus (ADU) just released a notice from Bank of America (Merril Lynch arm) that it had ceased to be a significant shareholder of ADU.

I was not even aware that they were a major shareholder.

BOA was involved in a borrowing some 27 million ADU shares (which is about 6% of ADU's issued shares). Why would they do that? Was it part of a shorting exercise and if so would this have been undertaken by BOA or some other party?
