Real concerns - for instance, there's a population of rare Blue Whales that lives in these waters. Vital for their food, raising of young etc. Outside of the sand plume there's the noise of operation that will be substantial and potentially disruptive. Outcome unknown, but extreme underwater noise does not mix well with marine mammals. As much as environmentalists will push the 'don't touch' message, TTR will push the 'it'll all be fine' message, but cannot be sure.
I guess it's all down to where folk sit on acceptable environmental risk or disruption.
