They dump enough of the stock to drop in price, once this drop occour some of the less experianced investors sell on fear of price falling, this fear selling is what causes price to drop, allowing the big players to put bids at lower prices, the more times they dump enough stock to make the share price fall even a little allows them to watch everyone else now sell at this lower level as they eat up the now cheaper shares. Also some of this dumping may trigger some other big players 'stop losses' and this causes more dumping, allowing the big player to accumilate.
