Not really bizzare, it is required at the start and finish, and then for safety reasons they must have a boat offshore and away from the rig able to mobilize quickly in the event of an emergency situation.
That is all part of the costs of the drilling, they are contracted for the duration. Occasionally you will see a different vessel there but i am not sure how long etc each one will stay there for.
As for the supply vessel, well it does exactly that. It will run backward and forward with supplies. You could be right, it might take some cold Maccas out to the boys but i doubt it.
Lets hope for some encouraging news on Monday.
