I just visited my local State Hospital which has over 4000 employees and about 2000 consultants
and by the look of the nurses, doctors and admin staff, one could play the game.."pick the Aussie"

Only for skilled immigration our health system would be in a shambles and that's but one sector of the economy.

My neighbour is a GP registrar aged 31 who has already completed 6 years of education + 1 year
into his GP Registrardhip and for those 7 years he hasn't made subsistance and hes has a massive HECS
which will take years to pay off. This is why we have to import doctors and specialists .

IMO education and training for medicine ought to be free provided that the recipient contracts
to work in Aus in medicine for at least 15 years ......otherwise it should be as is .
IMO the AMA has too much power in determining doctor numbers and if we make it financially easier
for an Aus student to be a doctor, then supply will moderate fees. In Finland for example, doctors education is free
and when qualified the earn similar wages to other professions. Here a GP earns up to $400K P/A .
