I play chess very badly. On occasion I play against a friend who plays very well. I can get into what I'm sure is a brilliant winning position and he'll say quietly 'mate in 5' and although I can't see it I know it is so, and my brilliant play is dust.
The US stockmarket has recovered it's position quite well and is feeling very good about itself. But it's 'mate in 5'.
