When Lithium prices jumped in 2022 everyone was looking for cheaper alternatives. BYD said they were going to put a Sodium ion battery in an entry level model but although it was going to be cheaper their LFP batteries were still better value for money.so BYD backed out of that one and nothing more has been said about it.
Basically Sodium batteries are less energy dense so it is unlikely they will ever appear in EVs where power to weight is important.
