Because if she worked for a large corporate or held a job at a company like United Airlines, I would say the reaction is not oversensitive and she deserved to be sacked. If she was a cook at a local restaurant, i would say it is a massive overreaction and is a case of people being too sensitive.

People who hold public positions are generally a lot more careful with their wording and are more accountable than the local landscaper.
