The national sentiment towards coal is changing and with it the political will to finance new technologies achieving lower carbon imprint as well as higher energy efficiency.


Origin Energy's chief executive Grant King has told Inside Business a low carbon price would lead to future investment in coal rather than gas-powered plants.



Whilst he admits that very little investment in the sector was recently achieved due to carbon pricing uncertainties, he also emphasises that the industry can not wait around forever.


The outcome for the industry after the upcoming election, which date will be announced today, is becoming similar to a labour as well as liberal government, hence allowing tentative planning as this stage as costs would not alter much, regardless of the election results.


The ALDP funding results will most likely coincide with the election, allowing the industry to move quickly once that hurdle is taken.

For ECT, it explains the rush towards construction ready by end of August in order to be prepared to move straight into construction when the political green lights are set.
