The Northern Territory having more than a third of that number, Brown told the inquiry the jurisdiction receives about 1% of the commonwealth’s funding for domestic and family violence.
“The Northern Territory has the highest rates of domestic, family and sexual violence in the country, and among the highest rates in the entire world,” she said.“I struggle to see what other public health crisis has received so little attention and so little comments from our national leaders as the absolute epidemic of violence against women and particularly violence against Aboriginal women.”
An investigation by the Northern Territory coroner last year revealed 81 women have died as a result of domestic violence in the Northern Territory since 2000; 93% of them were Aboriginal.
