you don't need to and your holding is probably going to amount to .00000001% of influence. If you genuinely believe that you understand the decisions being made and have a genuine belief that you will influence the outcome, go for it. If however, you are the 99% of people with a small holding and are only semi-aware of the board members, the overall strategy and asset then i'd say it's probably not worth it.

I bet you will get other opinions about the importance of shareholder participation and rubbish about every vote counting..... but trust me, it makes almost no difference in the day to day. the only ones i'd look out for takeover offers.
