I disagree with this spurious conclusion. If people were "reading the word as a whole", then they would not be able to recognise the scrambled words easily.
The correct conclusion is that your mind is able to predict most of the words in the sentence from the preceding words. If the sentences themselves were not syntactically straightforward, you would find the message very hard to read.
