    All we have to do is change our behavior and economy so we don't live so rapaciously. Higher energy prices are good in that they encourage efficient use of resources, maybe nutrition habits need to change too so that we eat less meat.

    Most people live in smaller houses/flats these days (if you live in a city). They cost more than they used to but no-one complains - people adapt as do their lifestyles. I don't think we're any worse off. So perhaps we should be catching trains instead of driving Hummers. Its not the end of the world - unless you live in Sydney in which case its closer to hell thanks to yeas of neglect by the state government.
