are you ready for the telecoms bonanza?

    Key elements are:

    · There is $3 billion in infrastructure projects that need to be matched by your money.

    · The Telstra network will be opened up for on-net competition; this will boost DSLAMs deployment, ISP- and content developments

    · Telstra will not be sold in total for at least another 3-5 years

What does this mean for the industry:

    · If we don’t cooperate, put our egos aside and combine forces the industry will lose out

    · Sol will need to take these changes on his chin and follow Ben Verwaayen (CEO BT UK) and use operational separation to massively change the organisation, its culture and its future focus

    · We need strong financial leadership to join the industry (Macquarie Bank, ABN AMRO, and others) to make sure that the funds get used appropriate, perhaps even a separate (infrastructure finance) company will need to be established for this.

No matter what happens, enormous investments are going to boost the Australian telecommunications market over the next few years.

While a lot of this will certainly flow back to Telstra, there will be plenty left in the kitty for a range of new and innovative developments involving FttH, WiMAX, satellite and BPL.

Now is the time to start preparing yourself for the developments that will occur over the next few years. Do you have your strategic plan in place? Are you setting up your strategic partnerships? Are you positioning your company to successfully share in the bonanza?
