after extensive exploration with detailed surveys and geological mapping that includes diamond core drilling, trenching, pitting and the making of adits; its iron ore reserves are estimated to be 47 million tones of 65% Fe grade ore.

70% of these reserves are located at Tungabhadra Minerals Limited, Taranagar where the mining activity has been focused since 1960. Mining of the other deposits began in the 1970s and only meager quantities of the reserves have been exploited so far.

With favorable market conditions prevailing for Fines of 64 - 65% Fe grade; the production span is poised for a three-fold increase.

The Salgaocar Group of Mines, Karnataka operate nine mining leases situated in the different ranges of the Sandur schist belt; Chitradurga and Chikkanayakahalli schist belt. These leases are spread out over an area of 550 Hectares at Sandur taluk in Bellary; Chitradurga and Chikkanayakana talukas of Tumkur in Karnataka.
