    To answer your question:

(NP-T1) Annual Projections of the Total Resident Population as of July 1:
Middle, Lowest, Highest, and Zero International Migration Series, 1999 to 2100.

    U.S. Census Bureau, Washington, D.C. 20233

Internet Release Date: January 13, 2000
    Revised Date: February 14, 2000

(Numbers in thousands. Consistent with the 1990 estimates base.)

The variant projections for 2050 are:

    2050
Projected population (Middle series) = 403,687M
Projected population (Lowest series) = 313.546M
Projected population (Highest series) = 552.757M Projected population (Zero international migration series) = 327.641M

The current USA population (Popclock) is estimated at U.S. 292,044,384 (to 18:59 EDT Sep 11, 2003).

The PopClock projections include persons whose usual residence is in the 50 States and the District of Columbia.

They do not include overseas Armed Forces, their dependents, or other U.S. citizens residing outside the United States.

The projections are based on the April 1, 2000 resident population.

So, the 292M Popclock estimate arguably understates the current position by 1.0M+ (due to active service considerations in Iraq, ME, Germany and Korea).
