Uranium boom lifts miner out of hole

Murchison said last week it was about to speed up work on its 15,000sqkm of uranium tenements in Guinea and Mauritania so it could catch the yellowcake wave. The uranium spot price is now $US63 a pound. "It's full steam ahead," he said.
Murchison has six exploration licences in Guinea, including tenements that were drilled more than 20 years ago by a US company. Sadly, the records have gone missing, so it's a matter of starting from scratch.
Not entirely from scratch, perhaps. At the Bohodou prospect, ground work has identified a 700m-long uranium anomaly, and at the Firawar prospect there is a 12km-long anomaly.
Both will be drilled, starting in January.
Mr Reilly said Murchison was focusing on the looming uranium deficit.
His comments coincided with an announcement by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko that his country would consider building nuclear power stations to meet future energy demand.
Murchison's copper prospects are also back in favour, thanks partly to CuDeco and Wayne McCrae putting that area in the news with their copper drilling results.
Mr Reilly is now looking at drilling Murchison's Millennium project next year, and he's in talks with Aditya Birla Minerals, a new force in Australian copper, about plans for their jointly owned Maroochydore copper project in Western Australia.
