my take, about a month after Tesla went public on supply risks and named Australia as a good place for partnerships, Indonesian officials were at pains to make public announcement saying Tesla was considering investment in Indonesia.

and now one month on or thereabouts, Indonesia bans ore exports.

I have no doubt there are strategic partnerships being negotiated behind the scenes and Indonesia has played it's ultimate trump card, albeit at the expense of confirming it's own sovereign risk liability.

if we see some deals go down in Australia, Indonesia can probably cut it's losses, reverse the ban and get back on the wagon knowing its bluff was called.
