That thinking ( only active mines are affected ), doesn’t hold up when we consider what happened in 2017.It was the juniors ( in particular the explorers such as ARL ), who’s share prices exploded during that time.
Why? Because the market loves the unknown, surprise, potential & room to speculate.
If I was a bookie ( word for guy who sets the odds at a horse race here in Oz ), I’d be putting nickel at 2:1 regarding its potential to do something similar for us this time.
I think the macro factors are pushing past neutral ( bipolar world of yay for nickel, boo for US vs China silliness ), to positive.
All good fun & we need all the points of view we can get. Especially the chart amateurs such as myself!
