Renesas has capacity to manufacture approx. 1B MCU's per year. About 570M are high-end MCU's. They also manufacture SoC's. They are a top tier supplier to automotive industry.

The average car has 1,200 chips x 100M cars per year = 120B chips per year.

ARM shipped 8B chips last quarter = 32B per year. About 25% are via licencees = 8B per year & 65% are Cortex-M = 5.2B per year. Cortex-M range is for IoT & AI ML applications particularly the new M85 series. ARM figures would be similar with 65% of 32B chips = 20.8B per year being Cortex-M. IoT & AI markets are growing very fast.

For 30c BRN IP royalty per chip it is a no brainer for OEM's to make their devices smart. That's 1/4 price of a dim sim.
