Once upon a time I used to pay my employees with cash that I put in little envelopes. Then the internet came along and I would directly transfer funds into their bank accounts. Similar thing with paying money to the ATO and suppliers. No more sending cheques involved. Payment systems have evolved. With schemes like Osko I can transfer money instantly from anywhere thanks to mobile phones and the internet. So much more convenient. That's why people aren't using as much cash and cheques anymore. ...but yes banks are nudging people to use those services and leaving some people behind.
