I knew someone would pick up on that so I deliberately left it in to make a point. Most Christians don't seem to understand what is fundamental to their own faith. If you ask a Christian to sum up what it means to be a Christian they would say that you must believe in Jesus as your Lord and saviour, that he died on the cross for the forgiveness of sin and on the third day he rose from the dead and that he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father. If you believe these things then you shall be saved......
But when Jesus himself was asked what is the greatest commandment he replied "that you love the lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbour as yourself". If the death, resurrection and ascension were so dang important to ones salvation he would surely have mentioned these things.....but he did not. The meaning of Christ's message was very simple. Resurrections and ascensions are no more than smoke screens to take the focus away from the only thing that really counts. What Christianity is supposed to mean and what it has come to mean are two entirely different things and it is therefore little wonder that it has become so irrelevant.
