That interview isn't clear in addressing different threats and mitigations; if protecting bases in Australia and overseas, the warning time for small, low flying, low radar signature drones is likely not enough time to launch killer drones to counter them; plus add intercept time challenges; large numbers of incoming drones, limited number of "killer" counter drones etc. The close range (500meters - 3000meters) laser and munition defence such Slinger seems necessary.

The upkeep, cost, skilled personnel to operate killer drones is going to be MUCH higher than a product such as slinger.

Ground based patrols can be protected by lighter EOS RWS systems in the counter drone configuration. A ground element on an operation outside of a protected base can also be targeted by enemy drones; a killer drone can't be everywhere to protect ground elementsin, and has a limited endurance.

"Killer drones" - a complex, expensive, slow solution when an existing straightforward solution is staring us in the face.

Killer drones as an offensive tool, then yes maybe; killer drones to protect bases in Australia and overseas as well as ground elements on mission? Doesn't seem realistic nor effective.
