KIE is the old and new Gateway to Panguna!
The new IATA destination code for Aropa/Kieta airport is KIE and will soon be seen on the luggage bags. The new airport is "next door" to Panguna and the former Bougainville capital Arawa. As in the past KIE will be the international gateway to Bougainville Copper's huge copper mine in Panguna. The re-opening of the airport is a first step to re-vitalize the region of Central Bougainville.
