A reminder that EICMA in Milan starts on Nov 13 going to Nov 18 - this is the largest motorcycle and scooter exhibition in the world. Timely.

I noticed this announcement from KLD (who we have collaborations with) and thought that if they are applying their tech to 4 wheelers then a future electric scartt application is a real possibility - as VMT flagged a few years ago now.

I also noticed this note re Kymco in Taiwan - which again shows how small the electric scooter market is outside of China - they are looking at 3000 units pa - for a 30-40% market Share.

KYMKO Targets Taiwan’s Motorcycle and E-Scooter Markets

    2012/11/06
Taipei, Nov. 6, 2012 (CENS)--KYMCO, the largest motorcycle brand under Kwang Yang Motor Co. in Taiwan by market share, continues to tap the market for sub-550cc motorcycles and electric scooters.

Not long ago, KYMCO launched two new motorcycle models, K-XCT300 and XCITING400, both of which feature engine technologies devised by BMW. Kwang Yang’s executives said the company is optimistic about growth potential of Taiwan’s market for motorcycles, as sales of NIKITA 300cc models have surged since the government allowed sub-550cc motorcycles on highways in July.

Kwang Yang contract manufactures 450cc motorcycles for BMW, whose engine technologies Kwang Yang applies to KYMCO lightweight motorcycles to be a key attraction. Backed by the German customer’s technological support, Kwang Yang, also a franchised dealer of Japan’s Kawasaki motorcycles in Taiwan, is confident of consolidating its leading in the segment at home with the said two new motorcycle models and will try to step up exploring the European market for lightweight motorcycles starting next year.

In the meantime, KYMCO recently unveiled several electric scooters, including the 2000W Candy 2.0, 3000W Queen 3.0 and 800W Mint, which are scheduled to be launched in Taiwan around the end of this year through early next year.

With a complete product mix, Kwang Yang’s executives said KYMCO aims to attain annual e-scooter sales of 3,000 units at least to command 30-40% share of the domestic market in 2013; while the Queen 3.0 has been ordered by a European country for postal service, showing a good start for the company to achieve projected sales goal for 2013.
