This is a true story and proves, yet again, how much of an uphill battle the junior end of the mining sector faces in trying to get its own little slice of the resources boom.

Perth-based Jackson Gold had had enough on the six-week turnaround to get drill samples assayed that it now finds it quicker and cheaper to get the work done in Canada.

That's right, instead of asking the local firms to work on the samples from its Boolaloo copper/gold/uranium project in the WA Pilbara, Jackson now finds it more convenient to courier the dirt to Canada.

The result is that the turnaround time for samples is now 2-3 weeks and the assay includes all mineral elements, not just the ones you pay for as is the case in many Australian laboratories.

It's good to see the old Australian spirit of where there's a will, there's a way has not been dulled.
