IMO the resource sector that has provided us with a shield. Who has been the major buyer of resources, China? Yes i would assume that the Chinese will come with workers, just as the Burrup Fertilizer plant came with Indians, however a lot of dollars was injected into the WA economy, and this is what helped to keep Aust Strong.
With the help of the chinese many of these stranded projects will see the light of the day, however the takeover and control of a select few by RIO & BHP will see the ones they takover warehoused and the others remain as Stranded.
