    Prospector Creasy may join Legend

JUNIOR gold player Legend Mining is expected to announce the entry of a new shareholder on its register tomorrow, a move that may help arrest the recent decline in the company's share price.

Market speculation has centred on Australia's richest prospector, Mark Creasy.
Mr Creasy has pegged large tracts of land around Legend's Gidgee gold mine and has been planning to list his own Gidgee Resources on the back of these prospects.

Legend sought a trading halt yesterday.

Its shares last sold at 8c, a third of the 24c it reached in March.

That month saw huge turnover in the stock after high-grade gold hits at the Gidgee project, located between Wiluna and Sandstone in Western Australia.

On a single day almost a third of Legend's stock went through and the company was able to get a $3.24million placement away.

    The price has eased since.

An analyst who follows the company said this was a correction to the "over-exuberance".

Legend bought the Gidgee project from Abelle and has since been drilling to expand the resource for the operating Swan Bitter mine. But the whole region, which centres on the Gum Creek Greenstone Belt, has attracted considerable attention in the past year.

In February Troy Resources hit high-grade gold at its Lord Nelson property near Sandstone, and at the other end of the belt -- but less than 100km away -- Agincourt Resources came up with very some high-grade hits around the old mining town of Wiluna.

This gold action zone includes Legend's neighbour, Gateway Mining, which has also had good results with its drilling.

The entrance of Mr Creasy into the area raised everyone's pulse.

Those who know the region say he has pegged everything that was not already nailed down by other explorers.

His is a name to make resources investors sit up and pay attention.

Even if he turns out not to be in discussions with Legend, his substantial presence in the region has the industry speculating about the future.

He has been prospecting since 1967 and made his first big killing with the discovery and sale of the Bronze-wing gold deposit.

Joseph Gutnick paid him $123million for that and the Jundee tenements.

Last year Mr Creasy made the BRW Rich 200 list.

He is reported to spend several million dollars a year on exploration.

Mr Creasy also owns 30 per cent of Apex Minerals, which yesterday announced it had formed an alliance with Canadian mining house Noranda.
