Tracking app to aid asthma sufferers

MILLIONS of asthma sufferers could benefit from a new smartphone app to monitor their condition.

AsthmaSense, which has a tracking system to monitor symptoms, trends, triggers and test results, was launched yesterday.

The Asthma Foundation of Victoria chief executive, Robin Ould, said fewer than 20 per cent of asthma sufferers had action plans in place with their doctors to manage their conditions, making the technology an ideal help.

"This is one of a number of apps that are being launched at the moment to help people monitor their asthma," he said.

Dr Lynn Taussig from iSonea, the company behind the app, said it would give asthmatics peace of mind and had the potential to help reduce emergency hospital admissions.

"Regular, diligent monitoring of symptoms, triggers and medications can be challenging for patients, caregivers and parents alike," Dr Taussig said.

One in 10 Australians suffers asthma.
