In my personal experience in a prior life working for a large EU software house in China ...you need to allow users to freely use at no charge and allow them to embed the software into their design and manufacturing process. If you get this far and they like it - then you can much easier convert them to pay for seat licenses. Software quickly becomes out of date these days so another strategy we use to use in China was to offer a number of free full-licences - accessible to all features and functions, however not available to future releases , updates or custom mods.

Typically, longer lead times to sales receipts ...however this approach usually works well if they "like" what you have AND a larger concern to mitigate, hopefully your software has no backdoors to your source code so it cannot be reverse engineered.
