It was interesting, no doubt, very moving in fact and I sort of have a similar pact with my own wife.

Thank you for posting it. I did a fair bit of wandering around British Columbia and Vancouver Island and on another occasion around Halifax up into New Brunswick through their parks and wild areas. I have a great fondness for the Canadian and their landscape which would not have been that dissimilar to the family of the article.
I have never come across a more welcoming, kinder people. My eldest daughter married a Canadian whose folks at that time lived in the middle of nowhere so we visited them and my wife and I were very fortunate to spend a good bit of time in the middle of nowhere, which is our favourite place.
