    Anvil back in action

    Rebecca Keenan

    Monday, October 18, 2004
ANVIL Mining has allowed evacuated staff back onto its Dikulushi copper mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo and said a situation in nearby Kilwa has now been resolved.

Media reports last week said heavily armed gunmen had seized both the Dikulushi mine and the town of Kilwa. However Anvil Mining denied its mine had been involved in the situation, though 75 staff were evacuated as a precaution.

Operations were affected by the evacuations and Anvil said it has been in consultation with the DRC government to provide additional security to the mine to allow continued operation if another such incident occurred.

In the last financial year the mine produced 13,587 tonnes of copper and 1.2 million ounces of silver. It recently completed an expansion that will increase production by 50%.

Anvil shares were today regaining some of the ground it lost they lost last week, being up 5% to 55c in early trade.
