And what do we make of this??? What was the figure for GDY's well before it blew?

    The Inconvenient Unconventional Geothermal Truth

The difficulty with geothermal energy production is that of achieving an economic rate of energy (heat) transfer to the surface. At the 200-220 degree Celsius bottom hole temperature targeted by Australian hot rock explorers this requires a minimum hot water production rates of at least 100 Kg(litres)/sec. Results to date have achieved a maximum but unsustainable rate of less than one quarter of this requirement. Sustainable rates have proven less than 10% of the requirement.

To achieve the required high fluid flow rate is unusual, even in the oil industry.
It requires a very specific set of geological circumstances which will be very rarely encountered in the geological terrains of Australia that are the best domains for high temperature rock at relatively shallow depth.

This difficulty is compounded by the
the need to fracture stimulate the rocks that are the heat reservoir. Without a well developed and open natural fracture system in the rock then the hairline open fractures that result from hydraulic fracture stimulation are incompatible with a high rate flow.

This is the geological truth of the hot dry rock unconventional geothermal model that is being pursued in Australia. The solution requires not simply money, but very finely targeted exploration. A handful of sites have any hope of achieving an economic energy flow rate. Undiscriminating Government largesse will only weaken support for geothermal due to a loss of credibility while squandering taxpayers' funds.
