I have seen figures from a Greenpeace survey that show over 90% of the population are opposed to "fracking" for gas (no further explanation was given in the survey). The guy I was talking to said there is not a single environmental issue that has stronger support. He said some of the strongest opposition is in the over 65s LNP voters.
I suggest that if the gas industry wants to make a case that unconventional gas is a safe and reasonably clean source of energy, it shouldn't start by calling 90%+ of the population 'leftards'.
To be realistic, people want to keep the lights on, and notice high utility bills. Making a case for responsible unconventional gas should be achievable.
