Funny you should say that phrase, because I've gotta say that for me, this year has been the year of 'learning NOT to love a stock'.
Ive fallen so many times before, and now be burned all the way down, by VBA, AIO, GPT, MQG, BNB, BXB, blah blah early in the year. The minute I realised I was "in love" with my shares , (about March 08) I immediately woke up and took profits and sold my SMY, BHP, RIO etc and have never looked back.
Being in luv and holding has been fine over the last 6 years, but I should have let go when realisation set in. Really weird but so true for me anyway.
I'm now one step closer to learning when to fold 'em. 'Long term for me IS now 3 to 5 years. Kinda like trading but with a sector/trend time frame of a few years each time (thats the new aim anyway).
