The days of gunboat diplomacy and colonial conquest to seize resources are nearly gone yellowcake. If they weren't an elaborate plot to mislead the people wouldn't be necessary. China is at least doing commercial deals to gain long term access to oil.

If you talk about globalisation in the narrow context of transportation of agricultural produce that can spoil in transit then yes the impending rise in oil prices will force rapid change in current long distance markets. Qantas fuel bill in the last 12 months increased by over $1 billion and surface transport must be feeling the increase even morel.

Nuclear power is clean power for electricity providing no accidents happen. There's really no alternative in the medium term. In the short term for most countries that are energy gluttons and base their populations in cold regions embedded generation and household conversion to solar power will start to happen, already is.

The issue of US debt to China isn't so simple and the US isn't playing a neat game because eventually the US will default on the debt. The US will have to try to make the default look like China's fault or allow its prestige to suffer a mighty crash which would wreak havoc with its economy. What elaborate scenario are the back room gnomes working on one wonders?
