The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) has changed its policy on player contracts to allow senior players based overseas to be considered for selection for the Wallabies.
In a major policy change, players who have had a professional contract with the ARU for seven years or more and earned more than 60 Wallabies caps will now be free to play overseas without losing the ability to be considered for the national team.
The announcement follows ARU changes to its contract rules in August last year to allow so-called flexible contracts.
These contracts, to be introduced from 2016, were to allow a number of top players to spend one season playing in overseas domestic competitions if they committed to the ARU for three or more years.
