Screen liquidity, whilst a guide, certainly isn't a true indicative of liquidity. Plenty of algos that don't post and simply snipe when the price reaches a user specified buy/sell level. Others might show partial liquidity for an order in the screen, then replenish when bids/offers are hit/lifted.
And of course straight limit orders can come in from a PM to a trading desk at any time of the day.
Just sharing the mindset and mechanisms used by buyside desks and the tools they use.
