Put simply and given that report is out of China: China may offer to streamline its rare earths licensing process, but the system still functions as a tool to track and control who accesses its supply.

The journalist put it plainly—rare earths remain a strategic lever China uses not just with the U.S., but globally.

Over the next decade, it’s virtually certain the West will pursue and support alternatives outside of China.

This situation poses a major economic security risk: both Western financial systems and national security interests are exposed.
