    You assume too much. Not all those that expect a drop in prices are perma-bears. I bought property in 2006, sold in 2010 (settled Jan), made a reasonable profit and will now rent until I see signs that a real estate purchase makes sense. I am enjoying the stress free act of renting. Less bills, no worrying about what could go wrong (e.g. plumbing, electrical, hot water, etc), no huge debt hanging over my head. Life is great.

    If cost of buying once again comes close to the cost of renting I might consider the switch again, but it won't be the only factor in the decision. I would like to have my own property again when I have kids for the stability it would provide.
