seems some can adhere to a trading method in the same manner as a religious doctrine... every approach has its limits.

I tend to look for Elliot patterns because when they're clear they're powerful predictors - especially certain starting and ending patterns. Other patterns besides clear Elliot waves are also remarkably reliable...

Key to using patterns is crowd behaviour, I think - the more homogenous the market, the more reliable the patterns... but exit targets and stop losses remain a universal prerequisite for any trading system.
