Well I'll answer my own question.
I overheard a caller on talkback radio this morning. The caller said he worked on the cable tv rollout in the mid-90's and that they had to drill through asbestos pipes and were exposed to asbestos dust on a daily basis.
The caller stated there were thousands of workers who banged and bashed on Telstra's asbestos pipes and that they did not follow any acceptable safety procedures in the handling of asbestos waste.
This could be a ticking time bomb for Telstra, so don't dismiss it by sticking your head in the sand.
If there is a risk to residents from the current NBN works, then there was a risk to millions of residents during the Telstra/Foxtel works in the 90's.
