Unlike some of the other wannabe Nova hopefuls in Western Australia, "Granmuren actually is a Proterozoic aged, granodiorite-hosted nickel discovery (Nova is Proterozoic and is around 1.5bn years old). The other WA Yilgarn nickel deposit are all Archean which are around 2-3bn years old."

"Granmuren is in the same northern hemisphere Proterozic belt as the Canadian Voiseys Bay and Thompson fields and it has been metamorphosed and deformed like Sirius Nova mineralisation."

Voisey's Bay deposit owned by Vale is considered to be one of the most substantial mineral discoveries in Canada in the last 40 years and is estimated to contain 141 million tonnes at 1.6% nickel. Open pit mining began in August 05' and processing began in Sept 05'! This is currently a 14 year mine with further exploration appeal.
