Four of the patients went into complete remission (cancer gone), but one died of graft-verses-host disease (this is where the donor stem immune cells attacked the patient's body), and one died of an infection after 2 years. Infection are very common in stem cell transplant patients as they are on immune suppression drugs to prevent graft-verses-host disease. Two patients are still alive and cancer free.
None of these patients were likely to live more than a few weeks before treatment.
