Your say on AGMs: Public consultation and review

The Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services, the Hon. Stephen Jones MP has appointed an independent panel to conduct a Statutory Review of the Meetings and Documents Amendments. COVID-19 restrictions necessitated changes to how companies interacted with shareholders including use of technology to hold shareholder meetings and electronic delivery of company documents. And as the pandemic impacts eased, there were additional amendments to the Corporations Act 2001 made in 2022. These changes allow companies to hold virtual-only meetings if their constitution permits and meeting documents can be delivered electronically unless a shareholder opts for postal delivery.

The review panel will report on how these changes have affected the conduct of meetings, including shareholder participation, voting rights, flexibility, and costs. The review will also assess the impact of electronic document signing and electronic delivery of meeting-related documents on cost and effectiveness.

Submissions are required by 19 July, with the panel’s final report to the Government expected by 14 August.

This is an article from ASA association….

One of the benefits of the digital, less people are aware what is pushed through the Federal, State or local Council.
In the old days when these things had to be advertised in the local papers u would become aware of such things accidentally and decide whether u should get involved.

For a few years I never had a clue what was going on in my area until the reemergence of a free newspaper!
