very guarded responses,alternately they are not based on direct market knowledge more the case of academic application after discussions with those who control automated trading systems,you know how they are good for the market aiding price discovery etc etc all the pure things.
sadly algos are not just used by kindly little old ladies whose intentions are pure,more like the big bad wolf eating little red riding hood---hedges destroying confidence undermining investor activity.
however used ethically they are on balance probably a good thing bit like a gyro stabiliser ships in rough seas.
