I have a very good idea what ASIO is and isn't up to: I've written a post-graduate thesis on the topic, well, the topic of surveillance in general.
You are quite right, they are doing some good: crime rates are falling, yet with less police/ASIO officers but with more crims/terrorists out there. Wonder how they are doing that? And I wonder what the cost of such a system is?
