I don't see it that way for either Islam or Christianity or indeed any other religion.
Words only have meaning if they are read in "context". Other than for things such as weights and measures .... everything we say must be interpreted in the context of how, where , why, when and to whom we are saying it.
I always go back to the fact that Muhammed (a man who never claimed to be perfect) allowed his wives to do far more than the modern day Wahhabi Cult. How can that be so? Maybe it is because Muhammed was illiterate and what is written has been filtered through the interpretation of many others. I could say the same for most religions.
Regardless there is no commonly accepted "literal" truth for anything including Islam.
