.IMHO zirconia s the massive sleeper in the Toongi ;plant products.- NB zirconia NOT zircon.
From ALK announcement of 6 June 2019 which announced the Ziron partnership is this gem
The Technology also uses Solid OxideMembranes (SOM) made from yttriastabilised zirconia to replace carbonelectrodes, and produces oxygen as a byproduct. Commercialization of SOMs usingyttria stabilised (YSZ) for extraction of anyof the major industrial metals would createunprecedented demand for both yttriumand zirconium. Currently, China dominatesglobal zirconium and rare earthsproduction with doubtful sustainability
Currently the only sources of zirconia are China and the French and US plants linked to the nuclear and defence establishments.
ASM will not want to be reliant on China for zirconia.
This makes it clear that the Toongi project is vital to the Ziron plant.
