As the market melts down it is interesting to consider the wheels within wheels that are in play here.
Nvidia, recently the worlds most valuable company, uses TSMC (some would say the worlds most important company) to manufacture all of its chips. TSMC while it is increasing manufacture outside of Taiwan, is still firmly Taiwan based. China wants Taiwan back. USA does not want that to happen.
Chips, electronics, electric motors, military equipment use a variety of REE that ASM could provide if they could get the funding. As of now though China primarily supplies them globally and breaking into that supply chain has been difficult to say the least. While the ROW has started to build independence from China it is a long way from happening.
China also relies on TSMC for chips so destroying the Island to invade is not an option IMO
However if any of a dozen other less catastrophic events happen I think the funding for ASM will be found pretty quickly. I hope we will be finding out soon.
